16th to 20th March ’18 – A BRIEF REPORT ON THE 105th INDIAN SCIENCE CONGRESS, 2018
Our state Manipur is very fortunate to host the 105th Indian Science Congress, with the theme ‘Reaching the Unreached through Science and Technology’ from 16-20 March 2018. It was the largest gathering of scientists from all over the states of India and other countries as well. The Department of Sciences and Computer Science with a total strength of 121 students guided by Assistant Professors, Tongbram Jayenta, Ela Justina, Dr. Neli, Naorem Jimni, Sagolshem Laxmi started the journey at 1:15 p.m. from Don Bosco College with a prayer led by the Vice Principal Sr.Rosemary Adaphro. The two buses reached the destination at 5.30 pm and everyone was welcomed warmly and escorted to the respective dorms of boys and girls in MIT campus, M.U.
The very next day, i.e., 16th of March, 2018 was the Inaugural Function of the Congress which was graced and blessed by the presence of our Honourable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The Chief Minister of Manipur, Honourable N. Biren Singh warmly welcomed all the delegates present in the gathering. The Prime Minister in his presidential speech highly applauded the theme of the Congress and also congratulated the entire team of the organizing committee. He urged the scientists to spend at least 100 hrs every year with 100 students to inculcate a scientific temper among the youth and he also stress that the Indian Government has to come up with new initiatives to promote research and development. There were more than 5000 delegates, out of which 2000 were scientists and others were professors, research scholars and students representatives from different states of India.
The technical sessions of different themes were held in the respective departments of M.U. in the next three days from 17th – 19th March 2018. Representing Don Bosco College, Maram, Dr. Basanta, Dr. Tejkumar of the Department of Physics and Dr. Neli of the Department of Zoology presented papers in their respective session. The students got the opportunity to attend the lectures of the scientists and research scholars of different fields which gave a new experience and motivation outside the classroom experience. The exhibition cum expo-trade was the main attraction of the congress where many institutions, organizations, industries and students displayed and portrayed their models and products. Pamphlets and study materials were also given out to the visitors. The students got the rare opportunity to interact with the scientists as well.Some of the few highlights of the congress were – All National Science Academics of the world, showcasing and promoting bilateral programs on Science and Technology, Industry partnership (Medical device, Biotech industries, Chemical, Mining and IT etc.), Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Space Technology, Marine, Agrotech etc.
The children Science Congress and 7th Women Science Congress were also organised. In the Children Science Congress, school children from all over the states of India participated in the Science model Exhibition, Poster exhibition etc. There were interactive sessions with the students for various scholarship programmes too. Every evening from 4p.m. – 6p.m. was the cultural programme where artists perform different items.
In the on-spot quiz competition, Chandrabhan Prasad and Krishna Kumar Gautam of the department of Biotechnology, DBC, Maram received first prize.
The others participant received participation certificates, Study kits, Abstract books and various study materials.

The whole Don Bosco College team returned and reached the college campus at 5:00 p.m On the 20th March 2018. Indeed every moment and time spent there in the short five days was a great delight and the experience. It was an another milestone to the college, staff and to the students to grow richer in their knowledge quest.
